My Spiritual Growth

Need and Assistance

“Need and Assistance” – that’s the title I gave to this article. It’s dedicated to the expression of compassion, kindness, care, and concern for others. You can read more entries from my spiritual growth diary by following the link.

Нужденність та допомога

When you encounter someone in need on your path – do not turn away! For in doing so, it’s not them God is testing – it’s you!!!

Some of the encounters with other people in our lives, especially those in need, are deliberately created by God for one purpose only: to teach us to be responsible (to ourselves and our hearts); generous, unselfish, and less egotistical; and to make us softer and more attentive to other people.

You can choose to ignore or ridicule these “encounters”; they may annoy and inconvenience you. But you must understand that the poor and weary person dressed in beggar’s clothes was sent to you by God Himself, so that YOU CAN BECOME BETTER!!!

Expressions of need can take various forms. It’s not just beggars, as we usually think, but also people who, due to certain circumstances, are currently in a difficult situation.

Do you understand? Do you understand what I’m telling you???

I will tell you one of my life stories because sometimes it’s easier to understand everything through examples. So, at one point in time, my family had very little money, clearly not enough. However, understanding that everything in the world is subject to clear divine laws, I remembered that if you help someone else, the Universe will find a way to repay you in kind, but multiplied several times. Some may find this strange, but at that time, I intentionally looked for someone who would ask for alms. And I found him!

The poor man was confined to a wheelchair; there was clearly something wrong with his legs. He silently sat near the entrance to a supermarket, bowing his head, not asking for anything, just sitting and waiting for someone’s help. At first, I just wanted to give him money (not a small amount!), then I thought of going and buying groceries for him at my discretion and bringing them to him. Only after overcoming myself (it’s true), I approached him and asked what was most important to him at the moment? How could I help him right now?

The first thing that deeply touched me was his sincere and joyful face, turned towards me! A smile lit up his face, and his gaze expressed gratitude. (PEOPLE, HELP EACH OTHER! I BEG YOU!) This person knew precisely what he needed. So, the man pointed me in the direction of the pharmacy and said he needed to buy medication, and they definitely had it in that pharmacy. Someone had already inquired and told him how much they cost, but he hadn’t bought them.

“Okay, I understand,” I replied. “Is there anything else you need?”

“Cheese. I would like some cheese,” he timidly replied.

Soon, I brought him the medicines he had mentioned to me. (The pharmacy girls started whispering to each other and laughing quietly because they immediately understood who the medicines were for.) I also asked for a bottle of water to make it easier for the man to swallow the pills. Then I went into the supermarket and bought the hard cheese he had asked for, a loaf of bread, and a few more things of my own choice.

How would you like to see how that man thanked me? (God, help him, send him people who are truly willing to help from the bottom of their hearts!) He quickly opened the medicine and immediately took it. He smiled, put the products I brought on his legs, and extended his hand to thank me.

You know, after that encounter, I felt like I was in some divine grace; it enveloped me, filled me with joy and love. And on that very evening, money came into our family – exactly the amount we desperately needed at that time.

“Praise God! Glory to You, Almighty! I thank You from the bottom of my heart!” I said back then.

I shared this incident over the phone with my eldest son (he already has his own family and lives separately from us).

“Son, help others,” I taught him, “then the Lord Himself will take care of you and your family.”

After some time, when I was near the same supermarket, I no longer saw that sick man in a wheelchair. He wasn’t there. I kept thinking he would reappear, but no! I never saw him again.

“Indeed,” a thought crossed my mind, “the Lord was testing. He was testing me back then! Me, you understand? Me, not him, but specifically me…”
